In September 2006 Canon announced the 44” imagePROGRAF^® iPF8000 wide format printer aimed at the digital graphic arts industry. The printer uses a media cassette tray, as well as an optional roll feed unit for printing long-length output such as posters or banners, all from 8” up to 44” wide.

A 60” version, the imagePROGRAF iPF9000 was introduced in September 2007. Both the iPF8000 and iPF9000 use the same supplies set, made up of two user-replaceable print heads, a maintenance cartridge and 12 color Type 330ml PFI-301 or 700ml PFI-701 ink tanks. The starter ink tanks that are initially packaged with the printers are full capacity 330ml PFI-301 cartridges.

In November 2007 the 44” imagePROGRAF iPF8100 MFP and the 60” iPF9100 were launched as replacements for the iPF8000 and iPF9000, respectively. Both new models added new print heads, 80GB hard drives and reformulated 330ml PFI-302 and 700ml PFI-702 Gray, Photo Gray, Black and Matte Black inks for enhanced monochrome prints.

These wide format printers use a combination of cartridge types; the iPF8000 and iPF9000 use Type PFI-301 and Type PFI-701 cartridges, while the iPF8100 and iPF9100 printers use Type PFI-301, PFI-302, PFI-701 and PFI-702.

All printers that use Type PFI-301/302 and/or PFI-701/702 cartridges require a new chip on remanufactured cartridges for correct printer operation. Please select either PFI-301/302 or PFI-701/702 for a list of products for either the PFI-301/302 and/or PFI-701/702 cartridges.
